I’ve been writing daily reflection journals for about 6 months now — I randomly started one day in December and haven’t looked back.

A lot of “mindfulness habits” feel like chores. This one came naturally.

I find that a powerful question or journal prompt can help reveal truths inside of us that are ready to come out, but haven’t had the opportunity yet.

A great question is an invitation for the subconscious to reveal itself in ways it hasn’t.

And daily journals have been a great, zero-pressure way to engage in those sorts of questions.

I don’t follow any particular framework for journaling, and I haven’t bought one of those pretty journals with the questions neatly packed inside for you.

I simply crafted a list of questions from a couple of places:

I stole some of these questions directly from my favorite thinkers (David Whyte, Liz Gilbert, Tim Ferriss).

But I’ve also had a lot of success by entering the prompts I’ve found most fruitful into GPT, and then having it generate more based on those.

Then, I’ll simply use a randomizer to help me pick the day’s prompt from the list of prompts.

My goal is to write as much as I can about a given prompt, while trying not to think about the actual contents of my writing.

The goal is to get out of my head. Simply allow my fingers to do what they please, and see what comes out the other end. No judgement, since it’s just for me anyway.

Anyway. This is a list of the prompts and questions I’ve found most helpful:

JOURNAL PROMPTS
  1. If every person had one hidden superpower that’s just a slight exaggeration of their natural tendencies, what would your hidden superpower be? How could you use it to your advantage?
  2. What is an idea about the future that you think about jokingly? What if you took that idea seriously – what would your life look like?
  3. What feels risky to want? What doors might open if you fully allow yourself to want this openly, without apology?
  4. What is a beautiful question you have cradled through years of doubt? It is too precious to ask. The question that you are afraid the answer will come back as no.
  5. What belief about yourself, if fully embraced, would transform your life most significantly right now?
  6. If you truly believed life is conspiring in your favor how would you interpret your current challenges differently?
  7. What advice would the bravest version of you give to the person writing today’s entry?
  8. What part of your identity do you feel you’ve inherited rather than consciously chosen? How would your life shift if you actively redefine this part of yourself?
  9. What do you deeply know about yourself but struggle to admit openly, even in private? Why?
  10. Imagine that at the end of life, you discover reincarnation is real. You’re allowed to leave one piece of wisdom or advice for the next version of your soul. What would you leave behind?
  11. Which decision are you postponing that, if made, would give you the most relief??
  12. What are you learning to love that you didn’t know you could love as you move into the next Epoch of your existence?
  13. What threshold have you circled 1000 times, yet never crossed?
  14. If curiosity were your only compass, where would it lead you today?
  15. What is the invitation life is offering you right now? Are you ready to accept it?
  16. Which part of yourself keeps knocking at the door, asking to be let in?
  17. If you had to teach a class on your biggest mistakes, what would be the first lesson?
  18. Where does your heart go wandering when you forget to guard its path?
  19. Which parts of your life feel most alive with magic right now, and how can you invite more than enchantment in?
  20. What would you create if you truly believe that joy was as valid of motivation as duty?
  21. Where in your life are you resisting what is, rather than using it as fuel for what could be?
  22. What’s one thing you’ve been avoiding feeling? What happens when you let yourself feel it fully?
  23. What season of your life are you in right now? What does it ask of you?
  24. What are you pruning in your life to make space for new growth?
  25. If you fully trusted the timing of your life, how would you move differently?
  26. When did you last experience genuine joy? Not pleasure, not excitement, but pure joy. What made this moment different from others?
  27. What do you know now that your past self was desperate to understand?
  28. Where in your life are you seeking permission instead of giving it to yourself?
  29. If every decision you made in the next 30 days were driven by curiosity and joy instead of fear, what new directions might emerge?
  30. What would it look like to fully embrace playfulness and spontaneity? What would change in your daily actions?

Maybe this will be helpful to someone.

I’m not really sure.
